The other day I arrived home after a long commute. As I dropped my bags at the door, one of the kids reminded me that I needed to take care of something for their school. So I went over to the computer and happened upon a photo on my desktop. I ended up getting taken away by all these moments – from recent pictures of Emmy’s graduation, to 360 shots of Lilly’s outfit earlier in the week to photos from years ago.
About 5 years ago, we purchased an iMac for use in our kitchen. At that time, my daughters were 12, 6 and 4 years old. I wanted a computer in the kitchen so I could keep an eye on what they were doing online. What I didn’t realize is that the iMac would be recording our daily life – capturing things they did when they were small, family vacations, the prom…
When I was flipping through these photos, Grace pulled up a chair. Then Lilly joined us. We kept flipping. Emmy came home. We spent well over 90 minutes completely lost in moments that occurred years before. The best part was sharing the experience with my kids. For them it seemed like a lifetime ago and for me it seemed like yesterday.
These moments are captured everywhere. They are on our laptops, their phones, old hard drives, in shoeboxes and albums, hosted services, social networks and more. I want all of these moments back. I want to be able to relive those moments wherever I am and share them with the people I care most about in the way that I want. I want to keep them safe and I want to be able to see them on whatever device I happen to have with me.
